Recreate one of the most extraordinary races in Formula 1 history with the Scalextric Legends C4392A 1978 Swedish Grand Prix Twin Pack, featuring the revolutionary Brabham BT46B "Fan Car" #1 driven by Niki Lauda and the ground-effect Lotus 79 #5 driven by Mario Andretti.
Released in 2023 with new tooling, this 1:32 scale twin pack commemorates the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix at Anderstorp, the only Formula 1 World Championship race in which the Brabham BT46B fan car competed. The BT46B generated enormous aerodynamic downforce using its rear-mounted fan, while Andretti's Lotus 79 represented the other defining ground-effect design of the era.
Both cars are supplied as analogue, inline, rear-wheel-drive Scalextric models with Magnatraction and easy-change guide blades. The Brabham features a working rear fan, faithfully reproducing one of the most distinctive features of the real BT46B.

The 1978 Swedish Grand Prix
The 1978 Swedish Grand Prix saw the Formula 1 debut of the extraordinary Brabham BT46B "Fan Car". Designed by Gordon Murray, the BT46B used a large rear-mounted fan, officially intended to draw cooling air through the car's radiator, while simultaneously extracting air from beneath the car and generating substantial aerodynamic downforce.
Niki Lauda qualified the Brabham second, behind Mario Andretti's Lotus 79. The two cars battled at the front before Andretti retired with an engine problem. Lauda went on to win the 70-lap race by 34.019 seconds, giving the BT46B a victory in its only Formula 1 World Championship appearance.
Following the race, the controversial fan car was withdrawn by Brabham and never raced again in Formula 1. The Lotus 79, meanwhile, became one of the defining ground-effect Formula 1 cars of the late 1970s.
Digital Conversion
The C4392A is supplied as an analogue twin pack and neither car has a digital decoder installed. Scalextric specifies the C7005 digital plug for conversion. The cars are also compatible with ARC systems, while digital operation requires installation of a suitable decoder.
