Scalextric C4495 Ford GT40 #8 recreates the beautifully presented GT40 driven by Terry Drury and Keith Holland at the 1968 BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch. Finished in its striking gold-over-black livery, this 1/32 scale classic captures one of the privateer GT40s that continued to compete after Ford's factory programme had moved beyond the car's dominant period.

The C4495 combines Scalextric's high-detail tooling with a period-correct livery and a useful racing specification including Magnatraction, working front lights, an easy-change guide blade and DPR digital compatibility. Supplied in analogue form, it can be converted to compatible Scalextric digital racing using the C8515 digital plug.

The GT40 at the 1968 BOAC 500

By 1968, the Ford GT40 had already established itself as one of the defining sports racing cars of the decade. While the factory-backed cars were fighting at the front of international endurance racing, the GT40 remained highly attractive to privateer teams — and the C4495 represents one of those independent efforts.

Terry Drury and Keith Holland qualified the #8 GT40 in 22nd position for the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch. The pair completed 91 laps of the demanding Grand Prix circuit before their race ended with low oil pressure.

The result may not have been the fairytale finish associated with the GT40's greatest victories, but that is precisely what makes this car interesting. It represents the long competitive life of the GT40 beyond its factory-dominated years — a beautifully prepared privateer machine still being raced at one of Britain's most important endurance events.

A Distinctive Gold & Black GT40

The C4495's gold-over-black colour scheme is one of its defining features. Scalextric has reproduced the period presentation of the #8 car in 1/32 scale, including its race markings and the unmistakable low, wide shape of the GT40.

At approximately 140mm long, 60mm wide and 50mm high, the model has the compact proportions expected of a 1/32 slot car while retaining the visual character that made the GT40 one of the most recognisable endurance racers of the 1960s.

Built for the Track

The C4495 is more than a display model. Scalextric has equipped it with Magnatraction for additional magnetic grip, an easy-change guide blade for straightforward maintenance and working front lights for added realism.

The car is supplied in analogue configuration and is DPR ready. A C8515 digital plug can be fitted for compatible Scalextric digital operation.

Technical Specifications

Digital Conversion

The C4495 is supplied as an analogue slot car and does not have a digital plug installed. It is DPR compatible, meaning the Scalextric C8515 digital plug can be installed for compatible digital racing.

This gives the car flexibility for racers who want to run it on a traditional analogue layout initially while retaining the option of digital conversion later.

Magnatraction & Lighting

Magnatraction provides additional magnetic assistance between the car and track, helping to stabilise the GT40 during acceleration and cornering. Racers who prefer a more traditional non-magnet handling balance can adjust their setup according to their track and class requirements.

The C4495 also features working front lights, adding a convincing period endurance-racing character to the model. Scalextric specifies no working rear lights on this release.
