This stainless steel hollow shaft is ground but not tempered so its hardness and wear resistance is much lower than a hardened or coated shaft. 

The hollow axle is suitable for the front or rear axle alike, due to its light weight, When using it as a rear axle, in a brass bearing or similar, it is highly recommended to generously lubricate it to minimise friction and wear.
